Christmas trees are recycled into mulch and compost. Only real trees, free of decoration, lights, stands, tinsel and flocking can be recycled. There are three options for Christmas tree recycling:
Curbside residential collection
Whole tree curbside pickup is available throughout the County, except for in Sonoma and Sebastopol (in these areas, you should cut your tree down to fit inside your bin).
Recology customers: No service on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, or New Year's Day. Service will be delayed by one day for these holidays.
Please set whole trees less than 6 feet, or larger trees cut in half next to your yard waste bin on specified dates:

For curbside tree recycling on regular collection days outside of the dates above, please cut down unflocked trees free of all accessories and décor to fit inside the yard waste cart with the lid closed. Do not bag your tree.

Non-profit whole tree pickup
Call (707) 565-3333 to make an appointment for pickup. Pickups will be available December 30th & 31st 2023, as well as January 6,7, and 13, 2024. Call before Saturday, January 9, 2024 to make an appointment. The suggested donation for this service is $10 for trees less than 6 feet and $15 for larger trees. Please note, this service is not available for Sonoma and Sebastopol residents this year.
