About Us

Zero Waste Sonoma is the new face of the Sonoma County Waste Management Agency (SCWMA). Our mission and values are the same, but our name and logo have changed to better reflect our identity as a government agency separate from, but related to, Sonoma County. Our new name also captures the regional commitment of achieving zero waste by 2030, which means diverting 90% of all material from landfills and into more beneficial use.

As the joint powers authority for the unincorporated area and nine cities and towns in Sonoma County, we are the local government entity for all things related to recycling and solid waste disposal. Zero Waste Sonoma exists to serve you: the residents and businesses of Sonoma County. We want to help you reduce, reuse, recycle, and discard all materials in the safest and most environmentally responsible way possible.

We manage programs in composting and Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), and we provide solid waste planning and reporting as well as education and outreach for all ten member jurisdictions. In turn, representatives from each of the jurisdictions make up our Agency board.

We hope that this website will serve as your go-to resource for answering any and all your recycling or disposal questions. Alternatively, pick up our free Recycle Guide (which is also available in Spanish) at your local government office, library, or community center. Copies of the Guide have also been distributed to select grocery stores, supermarkets, and hardware stores. Residents living in Sonoma County can order a Guide to be delivered to their residence.

Please submit any additional questions, concerns, or suggestions by emailing zerowastesonoma@sonoma-county.org or calling our Eco-Desk at 565-DESK (3375). Our offices are located at 2300 County Center Drive, Suite B-100, Santa Rosa, CA 95403.

Please note:

We are not a hauling company. For a list of garbage haulers servicing your area, please see the "Who's My Waste Hauler?" page. Their service representatives can help you change your service level, exchange curbside carts, or answer billing questions.
