Zero Waste Sonoma is the new face of the Sonoma County Waste Management Agency, the joint powers authority of the nine incorporated cities and the County of Sonoma.
Big-picture, we’re focused on minimizing the amount of waste that ends up in our landfills, which means boosting recycling and composting efforts and even minimizing the purchase of single-use items whenever possible—from plastic straws to grocery bags. We’re also designing outreach programs to make it easier for you to do the right thing: Collecting items like household hazardous waste and building materials, while focusing on education and planning for the county’s future.
You’re probably familiar with our Recycle Guide, which contains everything you’d ever want to know about recycling and disposing of items in our county—a publication we’ve been distributing since 1993. As digital tools have made it easier to share more information more widely and more quickly (while saving a few trees in the process), we’re hoping this site will serve the same purpose, with search functions and calendar capabilities to help you find critical information even quicker—from anywhere.
Although our comprehensive instructions (from putting tape on the ends of dead batteries to placing greasy pizza boxes in the right bins... compost, in case you are wondering) may make it seem like we are the ones telling you what to do, ultimately we are here to serve you. So let us know how we can help you preserve our county for the next generation….
