Carpet - Carpet padding - Hard flooring

California was the first state to require a statewide carpet recycling program designed and implemented by carpet manufacturers with CalRecycle oversight. Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) is the manufacturers’ stewardship organization that implements the program. See CARE drop-off locations throughout California.

CARE registered locations can recover 90-100% of the material for recycling. Post-consumer carpet can be recycled into fiber or plastic pellets, which can be used to make a broad range of products. To browse currently available products made with post-consumer recycled carpet, visit CarpetRecovery.org/Products.

Is your carpet ready for recycling?
Step 1: Keep it dry.
Step 2:
Keep it debris free - remove tack strips, nails, trash, and dirt.
Step 3:
Prepare the carpet: cut carpet into manageable sections; separate from pad; roll carpet; roll, stack or fold carpet pad; stack carpet pile.
Step 4:
Recycle carpet at local CARE locations.
* If your used flooring material can't be reused or recycled through CARE, it should be disposed of as garbage.
