Metal - scrap

Recyclable scrap metal (ferrous and nonferrous metals) is banned from disposal at County Refuse Disposal Sites.

Ferrous metals contain iron (e.g., steel); magnets stick to ferrous metal. For satellite dishes remove plastic components before recycling.

Nonferrous metals
do not contain iron (e.g., brass, aluminum, copper).

All County Refuse Disposal Sites, as well as a number of other locations, accept scrap metal for recycling. In addition, residential garbage company customers may place small* scrap metal items in their blue curbside recycling cart Please remove textile, rubber and plastic components.

* Scrap metal accepted curbside varies by area: CUSTOMERS OF RECOLOGY SONOMA MARIN: Scrap metal less than 18 inches in diameter, 25 pounds or less. CUSTOMERS OF SONOMA COUNTY RESOURCE RECOVERY (WINDSOR ONLY): Scrap and cast aluminum, 40 pounds or less. CUSTOMERS OF SONOMA GARGAGE COLLECTORS: Scrap metal less than 24 inches in diameter, 20 pounds or less. Metal items must fit loosely in the cart.
