Plastic bags (drop-off locations)

Plastic Bags are not accepted in the blue single-stream recycling carts in all areas of Sonoma County. Some grocery stores and retail establishments accept plastic bags for recycling.

Recyclable plastic bags are made from polyethylene plastic film (HDPE #2 and LDPE #4) including grocery, produce and bread bags, newspaper bags, retail bags (remove hard plastic or string handles), product/case wraps (e.g., paper towels, bathroom tissue, napkins, water bottles, snacks, etc.), zip lock bags (remove hard components), plastic shipping envelopes (remove labels), bubble wrap and air pillows (deflate), dry-cleaning bags (remove paper and hangers) and furniture/mattress and electronic wrap.

How to prepare: Only clean and dry bags can be recycled. Remove receipts and food from plastic bags. Remember to bag your bags by stuffing clean plastic bags into a clear plastic bag and knot the top. Do not include bags that are dirty or have moisture, compostable bags, CD wrappers and other crunchy plastic, cellophane (e.g., Saran Wrap), food wrap, painted or glued bags.
